GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman junior Keller Harper (+5) tied for 25th Wednesday at the NCAA Men's Golf Athens Regional at the par 71, 7,253 yard University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
Harper, a native of Atlanta, Ga., who was voted the Southern Conference Men's Golf Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season, recorded seven birdies in the tournament's final round. He opened with a birdie on No. 1 then added birdies on No. 6 and No. 8 on the front. Harper carded four additional birdies on the back, including consecutive birdies on No. 12 and No. 13, to conclude the round with a one-under 70.
Harper's 25th-place finish marked the highest finish for the Paladins at an NCAA regional since Kirk Satterfield placed fifth at the 2011 NCAA East Regional.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each of the six regionals advanced to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 24-29, at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Davis Thompson (-8) of Georgia won individual medalist honors with a three-day total of 69-69-67=205, while the individual qualifying spot went to Western Kentucky's Billy Tom Sargent (-3), who won in a playoff over Stephen Osborne (-3) of Nevada.
No. 16 Georgia (-8) won the regional by seven strokes over ninth-ranked Duke (-1). No. 4 Vanderbilt (+1) finished third, followed by SMU (+15) in fourth. Liberty (+18) finished fifth to claim the last qualifying spot from the Athens Regional.
