Crosby Leads Furman To A Share Of The Lead At The Camden Collegiate Invitational

CAMDEN, S.C. -- Sophomore Jack Crosby (-2) made his collegiate debut on Saturday, posting two rounds under par to lead the Furman men's golf team to a share of the lead following the opening day of the Camden Collegiate Invitational at the par 70, 6,455 yard Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C.

Crosby, a native of Memphis, Tenn., fired a 69 in each of Saturday's two rounds.  He paced the Paladins with four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 13 & No. 14, to pace the Paladins in the opening round then eagled the par-5 No. 13 and added two additional birdies in round two.  Crosby enters Sunday's final round tied for third place, just two strokes back of Top Kamnark (-4) of USC Aiken, who posted rounds of 71-65=136 in the first day of the tournament.

Senior Scott Purvis (+2) and junior Keller Harper (+2) are tied for eighth place after the second round.  Purvis carded a 69 with three birdies in the morning and scored a 73 with in the afternoon, while Harper notched a 71 with three birdies in each round.  

Senior Connor Bruns (+5) shot a 73 with birdies on No. 10 and No. 13 in round one then recorded a 72 with a birdie on No. 12 in round two, tying for 16th, while freshman Owen Burden (+6) is tied for 20th after carding a 73 in each round on Saturday.  

Senior Garrison Hogan (+1) and freshman Phil Jones (+11) are playing as individuals.  Hogan is in seventh place after scoring a 69 with three birdies in the first round then tallying a 72 with an eagle on the par-5 No. 7 and a birdie on No. 13 in the afternoon.  Jones carded a 73 with a birdie on No. 7 in the morning and added a 78 in the afternoon to tie for 44th. 

Just four strokes separate the top four teams at the tournament.  Furman (+7) and USC Aiken (+7) are tied for the lead heading into Sunday's final round, two strokes ahead of Francis Marion (+9).  USC Upstate (+10) is in fourth, and Limestone (+17) completes the top five.  

Furman will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 9:20 a.m. Sunday in the final round of the 54-hole tournament and will play in a group with USC Aiken and Francis Marion.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via www.FurmanPaladins.com and www.birdiefire.com.
