Bruns Finishes In A Tie For 29th To Lead Paladins At Tar Heel Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Junior Connor Bruns (-2) finished in a tie for 29th to lead the Furman men's golf team Sunday in the final day of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at the par 72, 7,349 yard UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.  

Bruns, who hails from Duncan, S.C., scored birdies on No. 9 and No. 16, carding a one-over 73 in Sunday's round.  Sophomore Keller Harper (-1) tied for 38th after pacing Furman with a one-under 71 with birdies on No. 14 and No. 17 in the final round.

Sophomore Scott Purvis (+8) posted an even 72 on Sunday with birdies on No. 3 and No. 13 to tie for 61st, and sophomore Matt Lehman (+11) added a 74 in the final round place 70th.  Lehman recorded a team high three birdies on Sunday on holes No. 6, No. 9, and No. 11.  Senior Hunter Nichols (+11) placed 74th after scoring a 77 with a birdie on No. 17 in the tournament's final round.

Host North Carolina (-31), which ranks 32nd nationally, won the tournament by 23 strokes over No. 41 Jacksonville (-26).  UNC Wilmington (-21) finished third, one stroke ahead of Maryland (-2), and Coastal Carolina (-17) completed the top five.  Furman (+12) concluded the tournament in 12th place.  

 The Tar Heels' Ben Griffin (-19) who ranks 70th nationally, won individual medalist honors by five strokes with a three-round total of 67-63-67=197.

The Paladins will compete at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn., Oct. 13-15.
