CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. -- Sophomore Keller Harper (+3) fired a 70 to lead the Furman men's golf team Monday in the second day of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the par 72, 7,112 yard Cedar Rapids Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Harper recorded birdies on No. 7 and No. 9 to make the turn at one-under then added birdies on No. 16 and No. 18 to finish the day tied for 33rd. Senior Hunter Nichols (+2) paced the Paladins with five birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 3 and No. 4, to card a 74 and enter Tuesday's final round tied for 28th.
Paladin junior Connor Bruns (+4) also added a 74 on Monday. Bruns notched back-to-back birdies on No. 4 and No. 5 and made the turn at even par then added a birdie on No. 14, tying for 38th. Sophomores Scott Purvis (+9) and Jake Reilly (+9) are tied for 60th after two rounds. Reilly rebounded with three birdies to score a 73 on Monday, while Purvis added three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 6 and No. 7, for a second-round 76.
North Carolina State (-16) continues to lead the field after two rounds. Iowa (-11), who paced the field with a 282 on Monday, is within five strokes in second place. San Francisco (-4) is in third place, followed by UNC Wilmington (E) in fourth. Campbell (+2) completes the top five. The Paladins (+15) moved up three spots to tie for 11th after Monday's round. Dawson Armstrong (-8) of Lipscomb leads the field with a two-round total of 69-67=136.
The 54-hole tournament concludes with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start on Tuesday. Furman will tee off of No. 16 through No. 20 and will play in a group with San Jose State and McNeese State.
