GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's golf team will compete in the 81st edition of the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship Sunday through Tuesday at Pinehurst, No. 9 in Pinehurst, N.C. The Jack Nicklaus Signature course, which is serving as the site of the championships for the fourth-consecutive year, will play at par-72, 7,118 yards.
Furman's lineup for the 54-hole tournament, which tees off at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, includes senior Bryce Howell, junior Hunter Nichols, sophomores Connor Bruns and Garrison Hogan, and freshman Keller Harper. Howell leads the Paladins and ranks fourth in the league with a 72.2 stroke average over 28 rounds this season.
The Paladins will be looking to claim their first SoCon crown since 2010. Last season ETSU emerged from a tight multiple-team race to take a one-stroke win over UNCG, and the Bucs' Adrian Meronk shot a 3-under 69 on the final day of the tournament to claim a one-shot win over Howell and Wofford's Jeremy Grab in the individual race.
The SoCon currently has two teams ranked among the top 100 in this season's Golfstat rankings. Chattanooga leads the league at No. 93, while UNCG stands at No. 100. ETSU is just outside the top 100 at No. 110.
The team winner of the SoCon Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA regional, while the individual medalist will also earn an automatic regional qualification.
