GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's golf team will open the 2017 spring season this weekend at the John Hayt Invitational at the par 72, 6,966 yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The 54-hole tournament begins Friday and continues through Sunday.  Teams will tee of No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Sundays.

Furman will be joined in the 15-team field by No. 36 North Florida, 33rd-ranked Liberty, 31st-ranked Jacksonville, No. 45 UCLA, No. 49 UCF, North Texas, Tennessee, East Carolina, UAB, Campbell, Louisville, Coastal Carolina, Army, and Navy.

The Paladin lineup includes senior Bryce Howell, junior Hunter Nichols, sophomore Connor Bruns, freshmen Keller Harper and Stephen Reynolds.

"I am very confident about our team this spring," said Furman head coach Todd Satterfield, who is in his 21st year at the helm of the Paladin program.  "The terrific weather we've been having has allowed us to be more prepared as we head to the The Hayt.  Our qualifying was very competitive, and that should help us in Jacksonville."

Last fall Howell led the team with a 70.9 stroke average over 14 rounds, and Bruns was second on the Paladin team with a 73.3 stroke average over 14 rounds.

Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Live tournament scoring will also be available via
