Cole Finishes Fourth To Lead Paladins At Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. -- Senior Preston Cole (-4) finished fourth after carding a 69 in Tuesday's final round to lead the Furman men's golf team at the 19th-annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par 70, 6,617 yard Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.

Cole, who birdied No. 4 and No. 6 to go one-under for the day, finished tournament just three strokes behind individual medalist Matthew NeSmith (-7) of South Carolina, who carded a 67-67-69=203 for the win.

No. 22 South Carolina (-19) won the team title by 18 strokes over 26th-ranked Virginia (-1), while 35th-ranked Augusta (+17) was third.  Chattanooga (+21) and No. 45 East Carolina (+21) tied for fourth.  The Paladins (+24) recorded an eighth-place finish.

Junior Bryce Howell (+9) recorded a final-round 72 after notching four birdies on Monday to tie for 32nd, while senior Wehman Hopke (+10) and freshman Connor Bruns (+15) each carded a 70 in the final round.  Hopke, who tied for 37th, birdied No. 2 and No. 14, and Bruns tied for 62nd after scoring a team-high five birdies, including back-to-back birdies on No. 13 and 14, on Monday.  Freshman Garrison Hogan (+15) scored back-to-back birdies on No. 14 and 15 and added a third birdie on No. 18 to tie for 68th with a 77 in the final round.

The Paladins will compete at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga., March 14.
