Hopke Ties For 40th At Hayt Collegiate Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. -- Senior Wehman Hopke (+11) tied for 40th place to lead the Furman men's golf team Sunday at the The Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the par 72, 6,976 yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. 

Hopke, a native of Austin, Texas, birdied three holes, including the par-3 No. 6, to record a 74 on Sunday, while  freshman Garrison Hogan (+13) scored birdies on No. 1 and No. 8 to pace the Paladins with a 73 in the final round and finish in a tie for 51st.  Senior Preston Cole (+14) birdied No. 8 and No. 18 for a final-round 76, tying for 57th.  Freshman Connor Bruns (+16) tied for 62nd after notching birdies on No. 7 and No. 15, and junior Bryce Howell (+20) tied for 77th.

Brendon Jolley (-9) of Oklahoma State won individual medalist honors by four strokes after scoring a 70-68-69=207.  Thirteenth-ranked Oklahoma State (-6) won the tournament by nine strokes after shooting a tournament-best 277 on Sunday.  No. 37 North Florida (+3) finished second, followed by Jacksonville (+17) in third.  No. 50 Tennessee (+19) was fourth, and 43rd-ranked East Carolina (+25) completed the top five.  Furman (+51) concluded the tournament in 13th place.

The Paladins will compete at the Palmetto Intercollegiate March 7-8 in Aiken, S.C.
