PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. -- Senior Wehman Hopke (+9) is tied for 38th place to lead the Furman men's golf team entering the final round of the The Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the par 72, 6,976 yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Hopke, a native of Austin, Texas, birdied No. 8 and No. 11 to finish Saturday's round with a 76, while senior Preston Cole (+10) and rookies Connor Bruns (+10) rookie Garrison Hogan (+10) each recorded a 75 in the second round. Cole and Bruns both scored a team-best three birdies on Saturday, while Hogan added two birdies. Junior Bryce Howell (+14) is tied for 68th entering Sunday's final round.
Brendon Jolley (-6) of Oklahoma State took the individual lead after scoring a 68 on Saturday. He holds a three-stroke lead over the field after notching a 70-68=138. Thirteenth-ranked Oklahoma State (+5) surged into the lead with a field-best 281 on Saturday. The Cowboys hold a four-stroke lead over 37th-ranked North Florida (=9), while No. 50 Tennessee (+17) and Jacksonville (+17) are tied for third. No. 38 UAB (+20) completes the top five.
