Cole Ties For 25th At Hayt Collegiate Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. -- Junior Preston Cole fired a 69 Sunday to finish in a tie for 25th place to lead the Furman men's golf team final round of the The Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the par 72, 6,976 yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. 

Cole (+9) carded seven birdies on the day, including four out of five holes from No. 7 to No. 11 and three-consecutive birdies on No. 14, 15, and 16, to finish the day thirteen strokes back of #28 Beau Hossler (-4) who carded a 70 on Sunday to garner individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 76-66-70=212.

Sophomore Bryce Howell (+12) carded a 74 with a birdie on No. 6 on Sunday to tie for 37th place, while junior Wehman Hopke (+14) recorded back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and 6 and an additional birdie on No. 15 to finish the day with a 75, tying for 45th place.  

Senior Michael Borton (+31) birdied No. 8 and tied for 82nd, while redshirt freshman Alex Taylor (+37) scored consecutive birdies on No. 7 and 8 to tie for 85th.

#8 Texas (+8) won the tournament by six strokes over #29 North Florida (+14, while #26 Oklahoma State (+19), #16 UCLA (+21) and #18 Alabama (+29) rounded out the top five.  The Paladins (+60) finished the tournament in 13th place.

Furman will compete at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C., March 9-10.
