Heyward Tied For Second After Opening Day Of Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate
AIKEN, S.C. -- Sophomore Preston Heyward (+1) fired a 68 in Monday's morning round and a 73 in the afternoon to place Furman (+27) in sixth place following the opening day of the 17th-Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par 70 6,617 yard Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.
Heyward, who is tied for second place entering Tuesday's final round, finished the first day of play just three strokes back of leader Austin Langdale (-2) of Clemson, who notched a two-round total of 69-69+138. The #31 Tigers (+11) lead the tournament with a two-round total of 571. #7 Virginia (+17) is second, while #26 South Carolina (+19) is in third place following two rounds of competition.
Sophomore Preston Cole (+5) opened the day with a 72 in the morning round then shot a 73 in the afternoon to tie for 10th place overall, while freshman Bryce Howell (+10), who carded a 77 in the morning round, fired a 73 in Monday's afternoon round to tie for 47th.
Junior Michael Borton (+11) shot a 77 in the opening round and a 74 in the afternoon to tie for 57th, while sophomore Wehman Hopke (+26) enters the tournament's final round in 88th place after notching an 81 and 85 in Monday's rounds.
The Paladins will tee off of No. 1 Tuesday at 10:15 a.m.
