Cole Shoots Par In Final Day Of Brickyard Collegiate Championship

MACON, GA. --  Sophomore Preston Cole (+6) fired an even 72 Sunday to lead Furman (+27) to an 11th-place finish at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship at the 7,128 yard Brickyard at Riverside Golf Club in Macon, Ga.  Cole, who registered five birdies on the day, finished in a tie for 43rd place. 

Host Mercer (-27) held on for a two-stroke win over Georgia Tech (-25), while Virginia Tech (-15), Georgia (-11), and South Florida (-4) rounded out the top five.  Georgia Tech's Seth Reeves (-9) tied with Mercer's Hans Reimers (-9) and Emmanuel Kountakis (-9) for individual medalist honors.  

Sophomore Wehman Hopke (+3) carded a final round 79 to tie for 32rd overall, pacing the Paladins on the leaderboard, while freshman Bryce Howell (+9) birdied No. 11 for a 73 in Sunday's round to finish in a tie for 55th place.  

Junior Michael Borton (+11) birdied 2 and 18 for a final-round 73, tying for 64th, and sophomore Preston Heyward (+19) tied for 77th after recording a 78 on Sunday, with three birdies on the front nine.  Redshirt freshman Rob Knight, playing as an individual, fired a 71 in the tournament's second round after birdying four of his first five holes on the day.

Furman return to the course Oct. 11-12, when the Paladins compete at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn.
