Rain Washes Out Final Round Of John Hayt Collegiate Invitational
Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. – Heavy rains in the Jacksonville, Fla., area washed out the final round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club on Tuesday morning as the Furman men's golf team was forced to settle for a 15th place finish in the 36-hole event.
Senior Matt Brown (+4) was the Paladins' top finisher, claiming a share of 31st place, while fellow senior Anthony Aloi (+5) tied for 39th. Freshman Preston Cole, playing as an individual, posted back-to-back rounds of 75 to take a share of 43rd place.
The University of North Florida (-17) captured a 12-stroke victory over second place Duke (-5) with UCF (+9) finishing in third place. The 15-team John Hayt Collegiate Invitational field featured 10 of the top-50 teams in the country.
UNF's Kevin Phelan (-13) cruised to Individual medalist honors shooting rounds of 64 and 67 in the rain shortened event.
Furman returns to action March 4-5, at the Samford Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
