Florence, S.C. – The Furman men's golf team posted rounds of 286 and 297 to hold 10th place after 36 holes at the season-opening Raines Development Group Intercollegiate on Monday at the par-72 Country Club of South Carolina.
Senior Johnny Kyger of Salisbury, N.C., paced the Paladins with an opening round two-under par 70 followed by a second round 75. He is tied for 29th place with Paladin freshman Preston Cole, a Greer, S.C., native , who posted an even-par first round before shooting 73 in the afternoon.
Fifth-year senior Anthony Aloi, who redshirted last season, returned to the Furman lineup on Monday and posted back-to-back rounds of 73 to hold a share of 36th place.
Gardner-Webb (-12) holds the 36-hole lead by four strokes over Old Dominion (-8) with Georgia College (-6) in third place. Loyola (Md.) and North Alabama rounded out the top five in the 16-team field.
Old Dominion's Brandon Lemp and Gardner-Webb's Matthew Yelverton are tied for the individual lead at eight-under par through 36 holes.
Final round action is slated to begin Tuesday morning..
