Baton Rouge, La. – Greg Carrier shot a second round 72 to guide the Furman men's golf team into 10th place on the opening day of the LSU Invitational at the par-72, 7,346-yard University Club on Saturday.
Carrier, who is tied for 26th place at six-over par after 36 holes, followed an opening round 78 with an even-par round during the afternoon. He recorded birdies at No. 1 and No. 6 while carding just two bogeys on the round. Furman's Matt Brown shot 73-78=151 to hold a share of 32nd place at seven-over. Brown registered five birdies in the opening round, but struggled with three bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine during second round play.
No. 34 Iowa (-8) holds a six-stroke lead over second place and 24th-ranked LSU (-2) after 36 holes. Purdue(+9) and Minnesota (+11) are in third and fourth place, respectively, while Louisiana-Lafayette (+15), Louisiana Tech (+15) and Iowa State are tied for fifth in the 12-team field. The Paladins (+32) are 17 strokes out of fifth entering final round play.
Sunday's third and final round is set for a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
