Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. -- Senior Austin Reeves and junior Matt Brown each carded a final round 71 to help Furman (+44) to a 14th place finish in the John Hayt Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,977-yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Brown (+7), who started on the back nine, made the turn at one-over par before registering birdies on three of his final four holes to shoot one-under 71 and earn a share of 27th place. Reeves (+8), a native of Greenville, S.C., birdied five holes, including two of his last four, to post a 71 and finish with a share of 36th.
Arkansas (+8) shot a tournament-low 281 on Tuesday to successfully defend its 2011 John Hayt Intercollegiate and finish four strokes ahead of second place UCF (+12). North Florida (+13) and Coastal Carolina (+19) captured third and fourth places, respectively, while North Texas (+12) and TCU (+21) tied for fifth in the 15-team field that included nine of the top 50 teams in the country.
Julien Brun (-5) of TCU held onto his second round lead with an even par 72 on Tuesday to claim individual medalist honors just one stroke ahead of teammate Johan de Beer (-4).
Furman is back in action March 5-6, at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C.
