Paladins Shoot Final Round 297, Place Ninth At Amelia Island Intercollegiate

Fernandina Beach, Fla. -- The Furman men's golf team posted a final round 297 to claim ninth place on Tuesday afternoon in the Amelia Island Intercollegiate at the par-72 Amelia National Golf Club.

Johnny Kyger (+14) led the Paladins with a final round 72 while Matt Brown (+10) carded a two-over 74 and freshman Josh Chay shot a three-over 75.  Senior Austin Reeves (+4) shot a 76 to pace the Paladins with an 18th place finish.

The University of North Florida (-21) claimed the tournament title by 10 strokes over second place Texas A&M (-11) with Georgia Southern (+2), VCU (+12) and Xavier (+23) rounding out the top five in the 15-team field.  The Paladins (+41) nine-over par final round helped them climb three spots ahead of Arkansas State and Wofford who tied for 10th.

UNF's Sean Dale (-9) shot a two-under 70 on Tuesday to hold off teammate Kevin Phelan (-6) for individual medalist honors.

Furman returns to action at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, February 20-21, in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
