Duluth, Ga. -- Furman's Matt Broome carded a final round 71 to earn a share of seventh place while the Paladins settled for a ninth place finish in the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at the par-72 Berkeley Hills Country Club on Tuesday.
Broome (-1), one-over par through his first six holes, notched birdies at No. 16, No. 1 and No. 3 en route to a one-under 71 that moved him into a three-way tie for seventh. Furman's Austin Reeves posted a final round 73 to share 21st place at six-over while Matt Brown shot 75 to finish in a tie for 44th place at 12-over par.
The 10th-ranked University of North Florida Osprey (-8) used a final round 281 to best 24th-ranked Chattanooga (-7) by one stroke and grab team honors. East Carolina (+6) and Minnesota (+8) placed third and fourth, respectively, while Georgia Southern and Georgia State shared fifth place at 20-over.
East Carolina's Harold Varner (-8) capped the 54-hole tournament with a three-under 69 to hold off Chattanooga's Steven Fox (-7) for individual medalist honors.
The Paladins return to the course October 31 - November 1, at The Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina University in Cashiers, N.C.
