Duluth, Ga. -- Senior Matt Broome carded rounds of 71 and 73 to claim seventh place and move Furman (+18) into a share of seventh after two rounds in the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at the par-72 Berkeley Hills Country Club on Monday.
Broome (E), a native of Barrington, R.I., birdied four holes in each round while shooting one-under on the front nine in round one and two-under in round two. He trails tournament leader Harold Varner (-5) of East Carolina by five strokes with 18 holes remaining in the 54-hole tournament.
Fellow senior Austin Reeves jumped out to an early lead at three-under par, but finished at even par in round one before shooting 77 in round two. Furman's Matt Brown (+9), tied for 50th, notched second round birdies at No. 15 and No. 2 on his way to a two-over 74.
No. 10 North Florida (-1) holds a three-stroke lead over 24th-ranked Chattanooga after 36 holes, while Georgia Southern (+8), East Carolina (+9) and Georgia State round out the top five in the 12-team field.
Final round action in the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
