GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman quarterback Ingle Martin has been named Southern Conference Athlete-of-the-Month for football, the league announced today.

Martin, a 6-foot-3, 223-pound junior, led Furman to a 4-0 record in November, helping the Paladins clinch a share of the 2004 SoCon championship and a 49-7 win over Jacksonville State in the first round of the NCAA I-AA playoffs. He completed 54-of-87 passes for 874 yards and six touchdowns while also rushing for 83 yards and two scores.

The Nashville, Tenn., native led Furman to a come-from-behind victory over Wofford with 325 yards of total offense -- a week after directing the Paladins on a game winning 80-yard drive in a 29-22 triumph over then second-ranked Georgia Southern in Greenville. After garnering SoCon Offensive Player-of-the-Week accolades in the Paladins' 51-31 title clinching win over Chattanooga, he ended the month by completing 14-of-19 passes for 282 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for a fifth score in Furman's playoff victory over Jacksonville State.

On the season Martin has connected on 185-of-298 passes for Furman season records 2,602 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Furman, now 10-2 on the season and the No. 2 seeded team in the NCAA I-AA playoffs, entertains James Madison this Saturday at Paladin Stadium in quarterfinal round action. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m., and the contest will be televised by ESPN Gameplan.
