Furman's Ingle Martin Named SoCon Player-of-the-Week
Nov. 21, 2005
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman quarterback Ingle Martin has been named Southern Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week, the league announced today.
Martin, a 6-foot-3, 224-pound Nashville, Tenn., native, completed 15-of-17 passes for a career high 323 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 56-35 SoCon win over Chattanooga. His touchdown passes covered two and 21 yards, and his strong play keyed a Paladin offense that rolled up a 662 total yards -- the second highest total in school history.
Martin has passed for 2,404 yards and a SoCon leading 18 touchdowns this year, and in only two seasons in a Paladin uniform has already climbed to second place in career passing yards (5,196), touchdown passes (40), and total offense (5,629 yards). He also leads the SoCon in punting (43.1 avg.).
Furman is 19-5 in Martin's two campaigns as Furman's starting quarterback, and this year sports a 9-2 record heading into this Saturday's NCAA I-AA first round playoff game against Nicholls State (12:30 kickoff, CSS TV).
