GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A 34-27 loser to Appalachian State on Saturday, Furman plays its final home game of the 2007 campaign when it entertains league frontrunner and 14th-ranked Elon this Saturday in a 2:00 game that will highlight homecoming weekend at the university.
Furman, now 3-5 overall and 1-3 in SoCon play, must win its last three games to avoid the program's first losing season since 1998, when the Paladins finished 5-6.
Elon brings a 6-2 overall mark and 4-1 SoCon ledger into Saturday's clash. The Phoenix have won four straight league games, including a 38-36 win over Western Carolina, a 36-33 overtime decision against Georgia Southern, a 24-13 road triumph over previously unbeaten Wofford, and a 38-28 victory over Chattanooga.
Furman has won eight straight homecoming games, including last year's 28-22 overtime victory over Chattanooga.
