NCAA I-AA nationally second-ranked Furman returns home following a three-game road stretch to face Western Carolina in the Southern Conference season opener for both teams. The game will highlight Tobacco Free Kids Day at Furman.
Furman, which fell for the first time this season on Saturday with a 41-38 overtime loss to Pittsburgh, brings a 3-1 record into its game versus Western Carolina. The Paladins opened the year with consecutive victories over Presbyterian (52-7), Samford (45-10), and Gardner-Webb (38-6).
Western Carolina dropped a 26-20 overtime verdict at Gardner-Webb on Saturday to even its record at 2-2 on the year. The Catamounts kicked off the campaign with back-to-back triumphs over West Virginia State (77-7) and Nicholls State (28-7) before falling to Alabama (52-0) and Gardner-Webb (26-20) in overtime.
