GREENVILLE, S.C. -- - The Furman Paladins kick off the 2007 season this Saturday when they entertain the Presbyterian Blue Hose in a 7:00 p.m. game that will be televised by WHNS-TV 21/Fox Carolina and carried over the Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) network. CSS is available in the Upstate over Charter Cable (channel 58).
Furman, ranked 11th in the Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) preseason poll, has won 13 straight home games over the last two seasons and 19 of its last 20 clashes in Paladin Stadium since 2004. Furman is coached by Bobby Lamb, who has guided the Paladins to a 43-19 record over five seasons, including an 8-4 mark a year ago that featured the program's third straight playoff appearance.
Presbyterian, meanwhile, will begin its transition into Division I athletics this fall as a FCS independent, with full membership in the Big South Conference set to begin in 2011-12. The Blue Hose, who over the past 15 years competed in the NCAA Division II ranks as a member of the South Atlantic Conference, are under the direction of first year collegiate head coach Bobby Bentley, who spent the past 12 seasons coaching the ultra-successful Byrnes High School football program. PC posted a 7-4 record in 2006.
