GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman quarterback Ingle Martin is pictured in this week's Sports Illustrated 2005 College Football Preview issue.

Martin, a senior from Nashville, Tenn., appears on page 123 above Sports Illustrated's preseason NCAA Division I-AA Top 10 rankings. The 6-foot-3, 224-pound Paladin signal caller, who threw for a school record 2,792 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2004, headlines a Furman squad that is ranked No. 1 by SI.

The Paladins, who on Monday were ranked No. 2 in The Sports Network's preseason poll, return 13 starters off last year' squad that posted a 10-3 record, Southern Conference championship, and No. 5 final national ranking.

Martin is the second Paladin football player to be pictured in Sports Illustrated. In 2001 tailback Louis Ivory was profiled in the magazine's college football preview issue after rushing for a SoCon record 2,079 yards and capturing the 2000 Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in NCAA I-AA.

Furman opens its 2005 campaign on Sept. 1 at Jacksonville State in a game televised by College Sports Television (CSTV). Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
