GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman and Wofford will renew the Deep South's oldest football rivalry this Saturday when the two programs meet in a 1:00 p.m. Southern Conference clash at Paladin Stadium.

The game, which will be televised by WYCW "CW62" and streamed via ESPN+, will mark the 93rd clash between the two schools, who first met on the gridiron in 1889 and again in 1890 and 1891 before Georgia and Auburn, who erroneously claim the Deep South's oldest rivalry, laced up the cleats for the first time in 1892.

Furman leads the all-time series 53-32-7 and sports a commanding 33-11-5 record versus the Terriers in Greenville. Wofford, however, has won the last four encounters, including 24-23 and 28-10 verdicts registered a year ago in Spartanburg, with the latter coming in Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) second round playoff action.

The home team has won 10 of the last 11 meetings in the series.

Wofford (4-1, 3-0 SoCon) enters Saturday's contest, which will highlight Military Appreciation Day at Furman, ranked 4th in this week's STATS FCS Poll and 6th in the FCS Coaches Poll.  The Terriers took down Chattanooga, 21-10, last Saturday on the Mocs' home field and also own SoCon victories over The Citadel (28-21) and VMI (59-14).  Wofford's only loss was a 17-14 setback to Wyoming.

The Terriers boast the FCS's top rushing offense (388.8 ypg) and are averaging 497.0 yards per game in total offense.

Furman (1-3, 1-1 SoCon) was off last Saturday after claiming their first victory of the season, a 44-38 verdict, on Sept. 29 against Western Carolina.

The Paladins, who opened the season with losses to FBS No. 2-ranked Clemson and Elon, which is ranked fifth in this week's STATS FCS poll, let a 27-6 third quarter lead over ETSU, ranked No. 23 in this week's poll, devolve into a 29-27 loss to the Buccaneers on Sept. 22.  Furman has played the SoCon's most challenging schedule with opponents boasting a combined 23-5 record (.821 winning percentage) to date.

Furman has made strides offensively behind redshirt senior quarterback Harris Roberts, who completed 9-of-11 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown while rushing 11 times for 82 yards against Western Carolina.  Roberts' emergence was slowed in the early going after the Cumming, Ga., product sustained a fractured thumb on his throwing hand early in the preseason, costing him over two weeks of practice time.  He only played one series versus Clemson and did not see duty in the Elon contest.

While Paladin All-SoCon running back Kealand Dirks (145 yds., 2 TDs) has found the going a bit harder this year, Furman's perimeter ground game featuring the work of Devin Wynn (171 yds., 2 TDs), Darius Morehead (120 yds., 2 TDs), and Corey Watkins (107 yds.) has enjoyed more success and is averaging a collective 6.5 yards per carry.

Defensively, the Paladins will have their hands full attempting to slow down Wofford's high-powered running game, which figures to put inside linebackers Elijah McKoy (31 tackles) and Donavan Perryman (30 tackles), the Paladins' leading tacklers, right in the mix.

In addition to the live stream and commercial television broadcast, fans can follow the action on the IMG/Furman Sports Network via Greenville flagship station FoxSports 1440 AM, campus station WPLS 95.9 FM, and online via Stretch Audio thru FurmanPaladins.com, as well as thru Tune-In Radio on the Furman/IMG channel.  Fans in Paladin Stadium can enjoy the broadcast via in-stadium transmitter on 95.9 FM.  Dan Scott, "The Voice of the Furman Paladins," will deliver the play-by-play, and former Paladin offensive lineman David Cobb will provide commentary.

As part of Military Appreciation Day, retired and active duty military personnel in uniform or with military ID are eligible for two free tickets available at the box office on Saturday only.
