GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's football team will look to close out its 2016 home season with a victory when it plays host to Western Carolina this Saturday in a 4:00 p.m. contest at Paladin Stadium.

Preceded by a special ceremony honoring Furman's 23 senior football players, the game will be televised by WMYA (My40) and also streamed through ESPN3.

Coming off a 34-27 Homecoming loss to Wofford last Saturday, Furman (2-7, 2-4 SoCon) is hunting for its first home win this season, having come up short in its four outings this year and in its last six appearances in Paladin Stadium.

Western Carolina (2-7, 1-6 SoCon) has also had its struggles this fall, though the Catamounts are coming off a 32-29 triumph over VMI last Saturday in Cullowhee that halted a six-game losing skid.

Among the Furman seniors expected to lace it up in Paladin Stadium for the final time is senior quarterback Reese Hannon, who passed for 305 yards and two touchdowns against Wofford.  Two weeks ago in the Paladins' 24-10 road win over VMI, he threw for 291 yards and two scores while also rushing for a career high 84 yards, and over the last six games the Greer, S.C., product has thrown for 1,799 yards and 17 touchdowns, completing 145-of-220 passes (65.9 percent).  Earlier this year he became Furman's all-time passing (7,257 yards) and total offense (7,356 yards) leader.

Hannon's strong work is reflected by a set of receivers who have put up good numbers this season, including wideouts Andrej Suttles (42 rec., 599 yds., 6 TDs), Thomas Gordon (34 rec., 500 yds., 4 TDs), and Logan McCarter (27 rec., 367 yds., 2 TDs), and tight end Duncan Fletcher (25 rec., 240 yds., 2 TDs).  Suttles needs just 20 receiving yards to eclipse Adam Mims (2,433 yards, 2006-10) as Furman's all-time receiving yards leader, and his 176 career catches is 22 shy of Mims' school standard.

Fletcher is putting the final touches on a solid football career, which has produced 76 receptions for 869 yards and two touchdowns.  The Columbus, Ga., product who sports a 3.84 grade point average in business administration, was recently named to the College Sports Information Directors Association Academic All-District 4 Team.

Furman's defense has been buoyed the last three games by the return of senior linebackers Carl Rider (64 tackles) and Byron Johnson (54 tackles) from injury.  Rider's 324 career tackles put him just five shy of cracking the program's Top 20.  Combined with Johnson's 177 career stops, the duo boasts 501 career tackles.

Senior safety Trey Robinson, Furman's leading tackler with 90 stops, fashioned a career-high 15 tackles and a forced fumble against Wofford.

Furman leads the all-time series with Western Carolina, 29-12-2, but the Catamounts have won the last two meetings, including a 35-17 verdict two years ago in Paladin Stadium.

In addition to the My40 telecast and ESPN3 video stream , Saturday's Furman-Western Carolina game will be radio broadcast over the Furman IMG Sports Network, headed up by flagship station FoxSports 1440/Greenville.  Fans can also listen via in-stadium transmitter (107.7 FM) and over TuneIn.com, which is accessible through FurmanPaladins.com.
