Furman's Early Named CFPA National Placekicker Of The Week
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Ray Early has been named National Placekicker of the Week for his performance in the Paladins' season finale against The Citadel on Saturday, the College Football Performance Awards announced today.
Early, a junior from Darlington, S.C., converted both field goal attempts, had a 48-yard punt, and recorded a touchback on three of his five kickoffs, averaging 64.6 yards per kick against the Bulldogs. His field goals covered 52 and 37 yards, with the 52-yarder tying a career best first set in 2010 in a 27-10 Paladin victory over Samford.
Early converted 10-of-16 field goal attempts this fall and averaged 42.1 yards on 39 punts, including one that covered 82 yards against Wofford, marking the second longest punt in Furman history. He finished the season with 62 points, good for second on the squad.
