GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) will televise Furman's Sept. 1 season opening football game against Southern Conference rival Samford, it was announced today.
Kickoff for the game at Samford's Seibert Stadium has been set for 4:00 p.m. ET (3:00 p.m. CT).
Chuck Hussion will present the play-by-play, Corey Stewart color commentary, and David Cobb will deliver sideline reports.
Furman claimed seven consecutive wins in the series before Samford broke through with a 26-21 victory last year in Greenville. The Paladins, who hold an 8-6 series advantage over the Bulldogs, have won four straight in Birmingham, including a 27-10 verdict in 2010.
Television plans for three Furman games have been announced thus far. In addition to the Sept. 1 contest at Samford, the Paladins' Sept. 15 game against Clemson will be carried by Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) within the ACC footprint, including Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Florida, Fox Sports Carolinas, Comacst Sports Mid Atlantic, and the New England Sports Network. In addition, the Furman-Clemson game will be available on other RSNs outside the ACC footprint and also digitally on ESPN3. Furman's Sept. 22 road clash at Presbyterian will also be televised by CSS.
Furman, which returns 14 starters, went 6-5 overall last year under first year head coach Bruce Fowler.
