GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman head coach Bruce Fowler today announced the signing of 11 recruits to national letters of intent, adding a second quarterback to the Paladin fold late Wednesday afternoon.

"We're extremely excited about our first recruiting class, and I want to compliment our assistant coaches and staff for their outstanding work." said Fowler on Wednesday.  "We're thrilled with the high character, strong academic credentials, and solid athletic ability of these young men and look forward to them being fine representatives of Furman football and our great university."

The Paladins' recruiting class, which features eight offensive players and three defensive performers, includes six recruits from Georgia, three from Tennessee, one from Alabama, and one Canadian who played his high school ball in New York.

Among Furman's additions are a pair of first team all-state offensive linemen, Justin Floyd (Cartersville, Ga./Cartersville H.S.) and Joe Turner (Roswell, Ga./Roswell H.S.), two all-state defensive linemen, Ira McCune (Marietta, Ga./Hillgrove H.S.) and John Mackey (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor H.S.), and two quarterbacks, Travis Eman (Brampton, Ontario/Canisius, N.Y., H.S.) and Andrew Parker (Brentwood, Tenn./Ensworth H.S.).

Floyd, an Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) first team all-state selection and Rivals three star, helped lead 3A Cartersville to a 9-2 record in 2010 and participated in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association North/South All-Star Game.

Turner collected two all-state citations, earning AJC first team and Associated Press (AP) second team accolades at 5A Roswell High School.

An APsecond team all-state choice, McCune racked up 9.5 sacks for a 5A Hillgrove squad that posted an 11-3 record and defeated two-time defending state champion Camden County in state playoff second round action.

Mackey totaled 120 tackles and a team leading 12 sacks for Division II-A Baylor, which went 10-2 and recorded a state runner-up finish.  A 2010 Tennessee Sportswriters Association first team all-state choice, he won a state wrestling championship at 285 pounds his junior year.

Eman, who starred as a junior and senior at Canisius in Buffalo, N,Y., is a Scout three star who passed for 1,575 yards and 26 touchdowns while also rushing for 971 yards (12.3 ypc) and 20 scores in 2010.

Parker threw for 228 yards and a pair of touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown in Ensworth's 28-21 Division II-A state championship win over Baylor last fall.

Among Furman's 11-member class is offensive lineman Charlie Anderson, whose father, Charlie, twice earned All-Southern Conference accolades and was a two-time Jacobs Blocking Award honoree (1980 & '81) and NCAA Post-Graduate Scholar.

Fowler, who was named Furman's new head coach on Dec. 13, is expected to welcome the return of 17 starters and approximately 49 lettermen this fall off a squad that lost 10 players to graduation.
