Former Paladin Standout Cam Newton To Be Awarded Degree

GREENVILLE, S.C. --  Former Paladin standout free safety Cam Newton will be awarded his bachelor's degree in business administration this Saturday, the university has announced.

A three-time All-Southern Conference performer (2002-04) and co-captain on Furman's 2004 SoCon championship squad that went 10-3 overall and 6-1 in league play, Newton racked up 203 tackles, nine interceptions, and four fumble recoveries and twice earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors during his Paladin career.

Following his Furman tenure the Bennettsville, S.C., product signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons and later spent time with the Carolina Panthers before starring for two seasons with the Georgia Force of the Arena Football League.

Newton currently resides in Atlanta, Ga.
