SoCon Media Tabs Paladins Fifth In South Division

Greenville, S.C. -- The Southern Conference Sports Media Association tabbed the Furman men's basketball team fifth in the Southern Conference South Division in its preseason poll released on Wednesday.

Defending champion Davidson was the unanimous pick to repeat in the South Division receiving all 22 first place votes. The College of Charleston was picked second followed by Georgia Southern, Wofford, Furman and The Citadel.

UNC Greensboro received 12 first places votes to edge Appalachian State for first place in the North Division. The Mountaineers, who garnered 10 first place votes, were followed by Western Carolina, Chattanooga and Elon.

UNCG's Kyle Hines was selected as the preseason player-of-the-year.

Furman opens its 2007-08 campaign Saturday at 6 p.m. when its hosts USC Aiken in an exhibition contest at Timmons Arena. The Paladins begin regular season play on November 9, at UNC Asheville.
