Greenville, S.C. -
A 14-game home schedule, appearance in California's Golden Bear Classic and matchups with instate rivals Clemson and South Carolina highlight Furman's 2009-10 men's basketball schedule, released by Director of Athletics Dr. Gary Clark on Wednesday.
Furman opens the season with an exhibition against Newberry on November 6, at Timmons Arena and begins the regular season with a three-game homestand against Lees-McRae (Nov. 13), Presbyterian (Nov. 17) and Dartmouth (Nov. 21). After a trip to Houston, Texas, to face Rice on November 24, and a November 27, date at Big South opponent UNC Asheville, Furman opens its 18-game Southern Conference slate with a trip to Appalachian State on December 3, and a visit from Western Carolina two days later.
The Paladins will make the short trip over to Clemson on December 13, prior to renewing their instate rivalry with South Carolina State at Timmons Arena on December 18. Furman visits Columbia, S.C., to battle the South Carolina Gamecocks before opening play in the Golden Bear Classic against UC Santa Barbara on December 28, at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif. The Paladins will face either the host Cal Bears or Utah Valley State the following night.
After a January 2, contest against Erskine concludes non-conference play, Furman will turn its attention to 16 straight SoCon games during January and February. The second half stretch includes home games against SoCon South Division foes Davidson, Georgia Southern, Wofford, The Citadel and College of Charleston as well as Timmons Arena visits from Samford, UNC Greensboro and Elon. The SoCon Tournament is set for March 4-8, in Charlotte, N.C.
The 2009-10 Paladins return five starters and nine letterwinners from last year's team. Junior guard Jordan Miller paced the Paladins with 13.8 points per game in 2008-09 while Bryson Barnes contributed a team-high 5.3 rebounds per game.
