P.J. Brown Returns to Furman Coaching Staff

July 22, 2005

Furman men's basketball coach Larry Davis announced the hiring of former Furman guard P.J. Brown as assistant coach this week. Assistant coaches Niko Medved and Mike Shedd will also assume additional coaching responsibilities Davis indicated.

"We are excited about the addition of P.J. Brown to our staff," said Davis. "P.J. was an important part of the growth of our program as a player and we hope he will have a similar impact as a coach.

Brown joins Furman's staff after one season as assistant coach at University Prep in Seattle, Washington. Prior to his short stint in the northwest, Brown served as a graduate assistant coach for two years at West Virginia under head coach John Beilein. In Brown's second season in Morgantown, W.V., the Mountaineers posted a 17-14 record and advanced to the NIT.

A native of Miami, Fla., Brown played four years with the Paladins helping Furman reach the Southern Conference semifinals during the 1999-00 season. Following his playing career, Brown served as a student assistant at Furman during the 2001-02 season as Furman posted a 17-14 record and reached the SoCon Tournament finals.

Brown earned his bachelor of science degree in political science from Furman in 2002 and earned his master's degree in athletic coaching from West Virginia in 2004.

Medved, who is entering his seventh season as an assistant at Furman, has taken over recruiting coordinator reponsibilities following the departure of Ken Potasnak to the University of South Carolina.
