April 11, 2007

Greenville, S.C. - Furman basketball has inked Cincinnati prep standout Bobby Austin to a national letter-of-intent to join the Paladin program for the 2007-08 season, it was announced Wednesday by head coach Jeff Jackson.

"We are really excited about adding Bobby Austin to our program," said Jackson. "He is a true student-athlete and a player who has an opportunity to make an impact on our program right away. We are looking forward to working with him."

Austin prepped for head coach Dan Fleming at La Salle High School. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game to lead La Salle to an 18-6 overall record and 9-5 mark in the Greater Catholic League as a senior.

The guard earned MVP honors and led La Salle to the championship of the Kingdom of the Sun Tournament in Ocala, Fla., earlier this season. Austin netted 14 points in the championship game as his club upended nationally-ranked Columbia (Ga.) High School 63-57.

Austin is the sixth player to be added to the 2007-8 Paladin roster. Bryson Barnes (Atlanta, Ga.), Justin Dehm (Peoria, Ill.), Jordan Miller (Memphis, Tenn.), Connor Nolte (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Noah States (Roanoke, Va.) signed with the Paladins during the November signing period.
