Furman Looks For Season Sweep Of Western Carolina On Thursday

Jan. 9, 2008

Greenville, S.C. - The Furman men's basketball team travels to Western Carolina on Thursday in search of a season sweep of the Catamounts. Tip-off for the Southern Conference contests is set for 7 p.m. at the Ramsey Center.

Furman (2-12, 1-4) picked up its first SoCon win of the year when it downed Western Carolina 64-60 last Thursday at Timmons Arena. Freshman guard Jordan Miller notched career-highs with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists as the Paladins won their second straight game.

The Catamounts (4-10, 0-4), losers of five of their last six games, enter Thursday's contest looking for their first SoCon win of the season. Following last Thursday's meeting, Western Carolina fell at Davidson while Furman dropped a 77-60 decision at home to Chattanooga.

Furman holds a 35-20 lead in the all-time series with the Catamounts and has won seven of the last eight meetings. Western Carolina, however, claimed an 85-76 victory over Furman in the last meeting between the schools in Cullowhee, N.C., during the 2005-06 campaign.

The Paladins return home on Saturday to open a four-game homestand hosting the Elon Phoenix at 4 p.m. at Timmons Arena. The Phoenix rallied for a 66-61 victory over Furman in Elon, N.C., on December 1.
