Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men's basketball team will travel to Statesboro, Ga., Saturday to face the Georgia Southern Eagles in a 7:30 p.m. Southern Conference clash at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Furman enters the matchup at 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon after downing Chattanooga 69-56 Wednesday evening at Timmons Arena. Sophomore Alex Opacic netted a career-high 20 points and keyed a 16-0 second half run to secure Furman's first Southern Conference victory of the season.
Georgia Southern sports a 7-6 overall mark, but enters Saturday's home contest at 0-2 in league play. UNC Greensboro held the Eagles to only 12 points after intermission to claim a 68-47 win at Hanner Fieldhouse last Saturday. Appalachian State outlasted GSU 87-84 in the Eagles' first league game of 2006-07.
Guard Donte Gennie leads the Eagles averaging 15.5 points per game while forward Louis Graham has averaged 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
