Nov. 13, 2006
Greenville, S.C. - Robby Bostain scored a game-high 23 points and Eric Webb added 18 as Furman held off Erskine for a 67-55 victory in men's basketball action before 1,050 fans Monday evening at Timmons Arena.
Leading 38-37 with 17:51 remaining, Bostain netted two layups and Webb buried a pair of three-pointers to key a 13-0 run over the next 5:03 to open up a 14-point cushion. The Flying Fleet trimmed the margin to seven points with just over three minutes left, but a Bostain three-point play and Alex Opacic trey ended the Erskine threat.
"Erskine did a nice job tonight and are a well coached team," said Furman coach Jeff Jackson. "Robby Bostain and Eric Webb played solid, and I was pleased we were able to make a lot of subs and get guys some good minutes."
Furman raced out to a 31-16 lead in the opening 15 minutes of the game, but Erskine answered with a 14-2 spurt to help slice the Paladin lead to 36-30 at the break.
The Paladins shot 45.8% (22-48) from the field and 50% (8-16) from beyond the arc. Erskine connected on 21-of-50 field goal attempts and made good on 7-of-10 from the charity stripe. The Flying Fleet converted just 6-of-22 attempts from three-point range.
Bostain added six rebounds and five assists to go with his 23 points, while Webb dished out six assists and grabbed four rebounds. Senior Gerad Punch recorded a game-high eight rebounds for the Paladins.
Forward Craig Williams, who registered four blocked shots, led Erskine with 14 points and six boards. Brandon Wright collected 13 points and Matt Odom notched 11 on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.
With the win, Furman improved to 19-1 in its last 20 home non-conference games.
