Curry Leads Davidson Past Furman in SoCon Basketball Action, 75-57

Davidson, N.C. - Freshman Stephen Curry scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the second half as Davidson rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to down Furman 75-57 and clinch the number one seed in next week's Southern Conference Tournament Thursday night at Belk Arena.

Davidson limited Furman to 25.9% shooting from the floor in the second half and outscored the Paladins 45-24 to gain a season sweep of Furman and improve to 25-4 overall and 16-1 in league play. Furman dropped to 14-14 overall and 8-9 in the SoCon.

Furman, behind Moussa Diagne's 12 first half points and a 15-of-28 effort from the field, built a 33-30 lead at the break. Curry scored 11 of his points in the first 8:04 of the second period as Davidson fashioned a 25-8 run to take a 55-41 lead at the second media timeout. The Paladins answered trimming the margin to eight with just over nine minutes left, but the Wildcats followed with a 16-4 spurt to push the lead to 20.

Curry finished with 24 points, six rebounds and four assists. Thomas Sander added 12 points and seven boards while Boris Meno chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds. Davidson, who held a 39-30 rebounding edge on the strength of 11 offensive boards, shot 47.8% from the floor and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. The Wildcats outscored Furman 46-21 in the paint.

Diagne led Furman with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Gerad Punch tallied 10 points and seven rebounds. The pair, however, netted just two points after intermission. The Paladins shot 40.0% from the field and 7-of-10 at the foul line.

Furman concludes the regular season Sunday when it travels to Spartanburg, S.C., to face Wofford in the 2 p.m. contest. The game will be televised live by SportSouth with Paul Crane handling play-by-play and Cliff Ellis providing color commentary.
