Furman Shakes Off Slow Start, Downs The Citadel 64-41

Charleston, S.C. - Robby Bostain scored 11 points and tied a career-high with 14 rebounds to help Furman overcome a sluggish start and down The Citadel 64-41 in Southern Conference men's basketball action Monday evening in Charleston, S.C.

The Paladins, 15-11 overall and 8-6 in the SoCon, managed just two points in the opening 7:37. Trailing 8-2, Furman went on an 18-5 run to end the half and held the Bulldogs scoreless for a stretch of 6:14 late in the first period to claim a 20-13 halftime lead.

The Paladins converted just 5-of-24 first half field goals, but hit 8-of-12 free throws and held The Citadel to 5-of-20 shooting from the floor. The 20 first half points marked Furman's lowest total of the season.

Furman put the contest out of reach with a 14-5 run over the first 6:30 of the second half to open up a 34-19 advantage. The Citadel trimmed the margin back to nine points, but Furman shot 56.0% (14-25) from the field and sunk 11-of-12 free throws in the final 20 minutes to pull away for the 23-point victory.

Eric Webb tallied 13 points and four assists, including 3-of-6 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 from the foul line. The Paladins shot 38.8% (19-49) from the field and converted 6-of-15 treys. Furman held a commanding 44-29 rebounding edge.

Dante Terry led the Bulldogs (7-20, 0-14) with 12 points in his final game at McAlister Field House. Furman held The Citadel to 15-of-53 (28.3%) from the field, a season low for Paladin opponents.

The Citadel's 41 points marked the lowest total Furman has allowed in a road contest since limiting Georgia Southern to 38 in an 80-38 victory in Statesboro, Ga., on January 31, 1996.

Furman wraps up the regular season on February 26, when it hosts Georgia Southern in a 2:00 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena. The Paladins, who will honor senior Tony Carter prior to his final hone game, can clinch a first round bye in the Southern Conference Tournament with a victory over the Eagles.
