Second Half College Of Charleston Rally Sinks Furman 67-53

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Tony Mitchell and Bernard Jackson scored 14 points each and the College of Charleston used a 21-0 run in the second half en route to a 67-53 win over Furman in Southern Conference men's basketball action before 3,617 at John Kresse Arena on Monday.
Charleston improved to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in league play, while the Paladins fell to 10-7 and 3-2.
Tony Carter scored 12 points and the Paladins used a 15-6 run over the final 7:23 to take a 36-26 lead at intermission. The Paladins shot 56.5 percent from the field in the first half connecting on 13-of-23 from the floor.
Trailing 44-37 with 13:01 remaining, Mitchell's 3-pointer ignited Charleston's decisive run that gave the Cougars a 58-44 lead with 4:12 left in the game. Eric Webb's 3-pointer from the top of the key broke a 9:08 scoring drought by the Paladins. The Cougars outscored the Paladins 41-17 in the second half to earn the win.
Charleston shot a season-high 49.1 from the floor for the game hitting on 27-of-55, including 57.1 percent in the second half (16-28). The Paladins, who entered the game leading the nation hitting 10.6 3-pointers per contest, were limited to just 4-of-18 from behind the arc (22.2%). The Paladins shot 40.4 percent from the floor for the game (19-47)
Jackson, who didn't score or attempt a field goal in the first half, hit 7-of-8 in the second half. Jeff Horowitz added a career-high 11 rebounds and three blocked shots for the second consecutive game. The Cougars held a 38-24 edge in rebounding, including 24-8 in the second half.
Furman got a game-high 18 points from Carter and 12 from Eric Webb. Robby Bostain had nine points while Nicholas Sanders added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. Stanley Jackson added 12 points for the Cougars and Drew Hall dished out a game-high seven assists.
Both teams play league games on Saturday. The Cougars travel to Appalachian State for a 1:00 tipoff, while Furman plays host to Davidson in a 4:00 start.
