Charleston Muscles Past Paladins 66-53

Charleston, S.C. - Josh Jackson scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the College of Charleston to a 66-53 victory over Furman in front of a crowd of 3,241 Saturday night at John Kresse Arena in Charleston, S.C.
The Cougars outscored Furman 20-5 over the final ten minutes of the first half to erase an eight point deficit and claim a 30-23 halftime lead. Charleston, who held a 49-34 rebounding edge in the game, opened the second half on a 9-2 run to build a 39-25 advantage with 17:07 remaining. Furman was unable to cut the lead below eight the remainder of the contest.
Charleston held Furman to a season low 35.1% (20-57) from the field, including 4-of-22 (18.2%) from three-point range. The Cougars, 0-1 from the foul line in the first 20 minutes, converted 11-of-16 free throws in the second half.
Charleston, who grabbed 25 offensive rebounds, claimed the 13-point win despite shooting 38.8% from the floor and connecting on 2-of-15 three-point attempts.
Drew Hall joined Jackson in double figures with 12 points and six assitss while Jermaine Johnson chipped in eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds. The Southern Conference's second leading scorer, Dontaye Draper, was held to just four points but added six steals and six rebounds for the Cougars.
Redshirt freshman Stanley Jones paced the Paladins with 16 points, including 12 in the second half, on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Eric Webb added 10 points while registering a 6-of-6 effort at the charity stripe. Furman's 53 points, marked a season low.
Furman, 7-6 overall and 1-1 in SoCon play, returns to action Monday when it travels to Wofford to battle the Terriers at 7:00 p.m.
