P.J. Brown returned to Greenville in July to begin his first season as an assistant coach at his alma mater.
A 2002 Furman graduate, Brown lettered four times (1988-2001) and played a key role in the rebuilding of the Paladin program. His junior year Furman upset higher seeds UNC Greensboro and Georgia Southern to reach the Southern Conference Tournament semifinals before falling to eventual champion Appalachian State.
He remained at Furman as a student assistant coach for the 2001-02 season and played a key role in the Paladins' 17-14 campaign that included an appearance in the SoCon Tournament finals -- the first by a Paladin squad since 1980. He graduated with a B.S. degree in political science in 2002.
Following graduation, the Miami, Fla., product served as a graduate assistant coach at West Virginia for two seasons and earned a master's degree in athletic coaching from WVU in 2004. Following his stint with the Mountaineers, he spent one year as an assistant coach at University Prep in Seattle, Washington.
