Furman, UNCG Set For Key SoCon Showdown At Timmons Arena On Saturday

Furman vs. UNCG Game Notes

Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men's basketball team will look to move a step closer to a Southern Conference regular season title when it entertains UNCG in a key SoCon clash on Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. and tickets for Saturday's game are available at the Timmons Arena Box Office or online at FurmanPaladins.com.

Furman maintained its game-and-a-half lead over ETSU in the SoCon standings and improved to 20-8 overall and 13-2 in league play with a 74-62 triumph at Western Carolina on Wednesday night. With the victory, Furman extended its winning streak to 10 games, notched its 10th 20-win season in school history, established a new school record with its 10th true road victory of the season and recorded its fifth consecutive road win.

Junior Devin Sibley poured in 22 points to lead the Paladins, while senior Kris Acox added 18 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four steals. The double-double was the eighth of the season for the 6-foot-6 Reykjavik, Iceland, product, who is averaging 14.9 points and 8.3 rebounds in SoCon play. Acox has shot a league best 70% in SoCon play and 62.7% overall. Sibley has averaged 17.5 points per game for the season and 19.1 in 15 SoCon contests.

Saturday's game marks the 31st meeting between Furman and UNCG with the Paladins holding a 16-14 series lead. Furman has won the last three meetings, including a 73-67 decision at the Greensboro Coliseum on January 28, behind 24 points from Sibley. The Paladins are 10-2 all-time versus the Spartans in Greenville.

Furman plays its final regular season road game of 2016-17 next Wednesday at ETSU before closing the regular season at home versus Wofford on Saturday, February 25, at 2 p.m.
