Furman vs. VMI Game Notes

Greenville, S.C. -- Coming off of a thrilling 63-62 victory over Wofford on Saturday afternoon, the Furman men's basketball team looks to carry its momentum on the road when it visits VMI on Monday. Tip-off at Cameron Hall in Lexington, Va., is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN3.

Senior Stephen Croone completed the Paladins' comeback from an eight-point deficit in the final 3:30 by tipping in Devin Sibley's missed layup as time expired to extend Furman's home winning streak to five games and snap a six-game skid against Wofford. Croone finished with a team-high 17 points, while Sibley scored 11 points and Kris Acox added 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. The Paladins dominated inside with a 36-18 edge in points in the paint and shot 63% in the second half to edge the Terriers.

Furman (10-10, 4-3 SoCon) will go for a regular season sweep of VMI (6-11, 1-5 SoCon) and sole possession of third place in the SoCon standings on Monday night.  The Paladins claimed an 85-57 victory over the Keydets in the Southern Conference opener for both teams on January 2, at Timmons Arena. Croone scored a game-high 22 points in the first meeting in which Furman led by as many as 31 points.

Monday's game marks the 92nd all-time meeting between Furman and VMI with the Paladins holding a 57-34 series advantage. The Keydets, who rejoined the SoCon last season, swept both meetings in 2014-15.  VMI hit 24-of-45 three-point attempts in Lexington in the second meeting of the season to win 93-59. Brian Brown buried nine threes to score a game-high 29 points. Furman's last victory in Lexington, a 71-68 decision, came during the 1999-00 campaign.

Croone enters Monday leading the Paladins by averaging 16.4 points per game overall and 20.4 points per contest in seven SoCon outings. Acox, a 6-foot-6 junior from Iceland, has been a key to victory for Furman contributing 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting over 66% from the floor in the Paladins' 10 victories.

Monday's game be heard on the Furman IMG Radio Network at WGOG 101.7FM and FoxSports 1440AM, as well as, on your mobile device through the TuneIn Radio app. Links for the video stream, radio broadcast and live statistics will be posted at FurmanPaladins.com.
