Furman vs. VMI Game Notes

Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men's basketball team will host the VMI Keydets in the Southern Conference opener for both schools on Saturday. Tip-off at Timmons Arena is slated for 4 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.

Furman (6-7, 0-0 SoCon) comes into the conference opener looking to snap a three-game skid after dropping a heartbreaking 67-65 decision at UNC Asheville on Tuesday evening.  Stephen Croone and Devin Sibley poured in 16 points apiece, but UNCA's Dylan Smith hit a pair of clutch shots, including a fade away jumper from the left elbow with 1.5 seconds left to break a 65-65 tie and give the Bulldogs the win.

Croone leads the Paladins, who are 4-1 at home this season, averaging 13.8 points per game.  Freshman forward Matt Rafferty has contributed 9.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, including a 12-point, seven-rebound performance in Asheville, N.C.

VMI improved to 5-6 on the season with back-to-back wins over Gardner-Webb and Bridgewater.  QJ Peterson leads the Keydets averaging about 20 points per game.

Saturday's game marks the 91st meeting between the Paladins and Keydets with Furman holding a 56-34 series lead. VMI, however, has won three straight meetings and swept last season's regular season home and home series by claiming an 83-73 victory in Greenville prior to a 93-59 win over the Paladins on February 12, in Lexington, Va.

The SoCon opener can be heard on the Furman IMG Radio Network at WGOG 101.7FM and FoxSports 1440AM, as well as, on your mobile device through the TuneIn Radio app. Links for the video stream, radio broadcast and live statistics are posted at
