Furman vs. UConn Game Notes

Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men's basketball team looks to rebound from Thursday night's 77-68 loss at Charlotte when it travels to Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn., to face the 19th-ranked UConn Huskies on Saturday at noon.  The game will be streamed live on ESPN3 with Gary Apple handling play-by-play and Tim Welsh providing color commentary.

Charlotte rallied from a seven-point second half deficit to down the Paladins by nine points on Thursday.  Freshman Curran Scott scored 21 points to pace five 49ers in double figures as Charlotte connected on 20-of-24 second half free throws to hand Furman its first defeat of the season.

Senior Stephen Croone, playing for the first time this year after missing the opening two games following surgery to repair a torn thumb ligament, scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second half.  The two-time All-SoCon point guard made 11-of-13 free throws to move within nine points of former Paladin Robby Bostain (1,399) for 19th place on Furman's career scoring list. Freshman Matt Rafferty tallied 10 points and 12 rebounds to notch his second double-double in three outings.

Saturday's game will mark just the second meeting between Furman (2-1) and UConn (2-0) on the hardwood.  The Huskies claimed an 87-68 victory over Furman in the championship game of the Connecticut Mutual Classic on December 28, 1991, in Hartford, Conn. The game also marks the second of four games for the Paladins in the mainland portion of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Furman's first trip to Gampel Pavilion will air over the Furman IMG Sports Network, headed up by flagship station WGOG 101.7/Walhalla and FoxSports 1440/Greenville.
