Greenville, S.C. – The 2013-14 Furman men's basketball team was picked to finish ninth in the Southern Conference in polling of the league's media and 10th in voting by the league's 11 head coaches, it was announced on Thursday morning.

Elon was picked as the preseason SoCon favorite by both the media and coaches with Davidson tabbed to finish second in both polls.  Third place Western Carolina, Samford, Wofford, Appalachian State, Chattanooga, UNCG, Furman, Georgia Southern and The Citadel rounded out the predicted order of finish in the media poll.  Western Carolina, Appalachian State, Samford, Wofford, Chattanooga, UNCG, Georgia Southern, Furman and The Citadel followed Elon and Davidson in voting by the coaches.

The Paladins, who opened the season with an exhibition game versus North Greenville on November 1, at Timmons Arena, return three starters from a 2012-13 squad that posted a 7-24 overall record and 3-15 SoCon mark to finish sixth in the South Division.  Sophomore Stephen Croone, who averaged 9.9 points and 4.0 assists per game as a freshman while handling the Paladins' point guard duties, returns to the lineup along with senior Charlie Reddick and sophomore Kendrec Ferrara.

Furman opens its regular season at home versus Sewanee on November 8, before entertaining 2013 NCAA Sweet Sixteen participant Florida Gulf Coast at 6 p.m. on November 15, at Timmons Arena.
