Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team will play 14 home games during the 2012-13 season, highlighted a non-conference contest against instate rival Clemson at Timmons Arena, it was announced on Wednesday by Paladin head coach Jeff Jackson.
"We're really excited about this year's schedule," said Jackson. "There are some great opportunities for us to test our mettle prior to conference play, and the SoCon may be the strongest it has been in years. I know we can't wait to get started."
The Paladins open the season with a November 3, exhibition versus Limestone before entertaining Ivy League member Columbia University in the regular season opener on November 10, at Timmons Arena. Clemson will make its first visit to the Furman campus on November 16, for a 7 p.m. showdown and the Paladins will host an early Southern Conference opener against Western Carolina on November 28.
Furman will be tested on the road in the month of December with non-conference trips to Loyola (Ill.), Auburn, Wake Forest, Jacksonville and SMU before opening its SoCon road schedule and the new year at College of Charleston on January 5.
The Paladins, who posted a 15-16 overall record and 8-10 league mark last year, will play eight SoCon homes games in 2013 before making the short trip to Asheville, N.C., for the SoCon Tournament on March 8-11.
Junior Charlie Reddick, who averaged 10.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game a year ago, leads a group of five returnees who started at least 10 games for the Paladins in 2011-12.
