November 28, 2007 GREENVILLE -- Home games against Tennessee and South Carolina at Greenville's West End Field and a pair of road contests against Clemson highlight Furman's 2008 baseball schedule, which was released today.
Furman's 54-game slate features 33 home contests, including an Apr. 22 clash against South Carolina and May 13 contest versus Tennessee at Greenville's West End Field. The Paladins open the 2008 campaign on Feb. 25 against the Volunteers in Knoxville and kick off the home slate with a doubleheader against New Jersey Tech on Mar. 1. Furman is scheduled to visit Clemson twice this year, on Mar. 19 and again on May 7. Last year the Paladins defeated the Tigers, 6-3, in Clemson.
Furman will open its 27-game Southern Conference slate with a three-game series at The Citadel beginning on Mar. 21 and will entertain Elon in its first home league series starting on Mar. 28. The Paladins wrap up the regular season at home with a three-game set against Georgia Southern on May 15-17 before Southern Conference Tournament play gets underway on May 21 at Charleston's Joseph P. Riley Park.
Furman returns 18 lettermen off last year's squad, which posted a 19-36 record and 11-16, eighth place Southern Conference regular season finish.
The Paladins are coached by Ron Smith, who is entering his 15th year in charge of Furman's baseball program.
